Amsterdam, May 1st, 2025 - Shkoon, the acclaimed electronic duo known for blending traditional Middle Eastern sounds with modern club music, unveils ‘Greater Than One’, a profound new musical journey built on themes of resilience, reflection, and shared human experience. Delivering four immersive tracks, the EP captures the depth and nuance of what it means to be human, and reaffirms Shkoon’s reputation as genre-bending storytellers. Set for release via MDLBEAST Records, ‘Greater Than One’ invites listeners into a space that transcends borders and creates a space to feel, and to remember.
Opening the EP, Shkoon’s ‘Jadal’ is a hypnotic, melodic techno journey built on groovy synths, deep basslines, and cascading violins. Gradual piano progressions layer into a rich arrangement, while the oud and ethereal vocals evoke themes of inner conflict and resilience. Inspired by moments suspended between action and silence, the track reflects emotional tension through melody and structure. ‘Souf’ follows with a captivating blend of classical piano and euphoric drums, fusing soft, gritty textures with traditional Sufi chants that are a hypnotic invitation that explores surrender, self-discovery, and the longing for spiritual connection. ‘Mili’ offers a gentler, spacey contrast, a slower-tempo love song shaped by reminiscent melodies and flowing piano riffs. Rooted in intimacy and presence, it reflects the vulnerability of closeness and the beauty of being truly seen. Closing the EP, ‘Jannah’ delivers the most powerful moment of the release, driven by fast-paced rhythm, layered instrumentation, and evocative Arabic lyrics. It paints a sonic vision of hope, healing, and transcendence, the sense of finally arriving somewhere calm, open, and whole.

ABOUT Shkoon
Shkoon are Syrian/German duo who blend traditional Syrian folklore with downtempo electronica. They're the posterboys for the electronic scene in MENA (everyone knows them here) and equally sell-out shows in London, Paris and Germany. Quite unique. Gorgeous music aside, the story of how Ameen and Thorben met really peaks media interest. Ameen (Syrian) was an activist against the Syrian government, at his university. He was unfortunately put in prison for a month then once released, decided he had to leave Syria as it wasn't safe for him. He eventually arrived in Europe on a refugee boat and made his way to Germany. Thorben was living in a house-share at the time and decided to help Ameen until he found his feet. One night they started jamming and Shkoon was formed. Given what's happening in Syria right now (Assad's regime is now removed) this project is more relevant than ever. To this day, due to Ameen's 'refugee' status, he is still blacklisted in many countries
